Training in agroecological diagnosis for Lebanese partners of SIDI Lebanon

Context of the service

As a solidarity investor, SIDI supports local organizations offering financial and non-financial services to disadvantaged populations. It promotes peasant and solidarity-based agroecology, and to this end has developed an analysis grid to evaluate and improve the practices of its partners and their producers.

In Lebanon, SIDI launched the Tarik Akhdar project in 2022 to support 120 small agricultural and agri-food processing units. This project aims to strengthen local partners and improve access to credit for producers.

In this context, SIDI has offered its Lebanese partners, in particular Fair Trade Lebanon (FTL), training in agroecological diagnosis, focused on the use of its analysis grid.

The objective is to better understand and characterize the agroecological practices of the supported production units, in order to refine the targeting of credits and improve technical support.

Services provided

- Scoping meetings to agree on the content and organization of the training;

- Preparation of a training course in English, including all the materials, on the following themes: basic principles of agronomy, introduction to agroecology, presentation of the agroecological analysis grid developed by SIDI, filling in the grid;

- Remote co-facilitation of a two-day training session with about twenty participants (Lebanese partners of SIDI including Fair Trade Lebanon);

- Review of the data collected by the Lebanese partners during the testing of the grid with producers and debriefing meetings, including operational recommendations for the use of the grid;

- Drafting of a review note on the training and agroecological diagnosis process at the level of the Lebanese partners of the SIDI.

Summary of the service

Training in agroecological diagnosis of the Lebanese partners of SIDI (solidarity investor), including Fair Trade Lebanon: setting up and conducting a 2-day training course aimed at providing participants with a technical background on agroecology and facilitating their appropriation of an agroecological analysis grid developed by SIDI. Following the training, support for the use and completion of this grid with producers.
