In Senegal, the sylvo-pastoral zone of Ferlo has been experiencing a process of desertification since the 1960s following a decrease in rainfall patterns. The reduction in biomass, correlated with the reduction in rainfall, has particularly affected the living conditions of local populations.
In addition, faced with the demographic growth of pastoral societies and the increase in herds, the Ferlo ecosystem is under great pressure and its capacity for sustainable regeneration is strongly affected.
The objective of the Dundi Ferlo project is to contribute to the restoration of degraded land and support pastoral communities in sustainable land management and the development of value chains based on the development of forest and fodder resources.
This project is implemented by a consortium of NGOs and research institutes with Agronomists and Veterinarians Without Borders (AVSF) as the lead partner.
- Review and critical analysis of the Project Identification Note (PIN) of the Dundi Ferlo project focusing on the adequacy of the project presented to the FFEM criteria: contribution to the global environment; contribution to local development; innovative, demonstrative, reproducible, leverage; economic and financial sustainability of the project; ecological and environmental sustainability; social and cultural acceptability; Adequate institutional framework
- Identification of key strengths and weaknesses of the PIN, and making suggestions for project improvement at the next stage of the Project Commitment Note
- Drafting of a note presenting an opinion and recommendations on (i) the diagnosis of the context and needs, (ii) the definition of the project (objectives, components, activities), and (iii) the institutional set-up (stakeholders, partnerships, steering) for the implementation of the project
Review of the Dundi Ferlo project document - Reforestation for sustainable management of pastoral lands: analysis of the project identification note (PIN) and its adequacy to the FFEM criteria; identification of the main strengths and weaknesses of the PIN; drafting of an opinion on (i) the diagnosis of the context and needs, (ii) the definition of the project and (iii) the institutional set-up.
