Álvaro NAVARRO DE AZAOLA

A geographer specialising in spatial planning and cartography/remote sensing, he began his career taking part in regional and municipal Agenda 21 projects in Gran Canaria (Spain). He then worked in Nicaragua, first as a specialist in Geographic Information Systems (with Action Against Hunger – ACF) and then as a specialist in Natural Disaster Risk Management (with DRM). Subsequently, he worked in Tunisia, first as project manager of sustainable development and natural resource management of El Feidja National Park, then as director of the "Environment and Economic Development" program of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). Within AECID, he then worked 4 years in Paraguay as director of the project "Sustainable Development in the Atlantic Forest Region of the Upper Paraná River" before joining the National Secretariat of Tourism of Paraguay as a socio-environmental specialist. Since 2015, he has collaborated with SalvaTerra on various expertise in mapping and remote sensing, in Côte d'Ivoire (cocoa 0-deforestation), DRC (agroecological zoning of the Batéké plateaus), Madagascar (vanilla and clove zoning), Senegal (mangrove mapping), etc.
