Context of the service

The Svay Chek project, initiated by the Government of Cambodia with the support of AFD, aims to restore and manage the Svay Chek River watershed using nature-based solutions.

It includes three operational components:

1) Reduction of flood and drought risks by rehabilitating water infrastructure and improving ecological flows;

2) Sustainable agricultural development through the strengthening of cooperatives and value chains, particularly fragrant rice and cassava;

3) Improving water governance through integrated management and transboundary dialogue with Thailand.

Services provided

- Analysis of the Project Identification Note (PIN) according to FFEM criteria, including the assessment of its contribution to the global environment and local development, its innovative and replicable nature, its economic, ecological and social viability, as well as its institutional framework.

- Formulation of comments, questions and recommendations for the improvement of the project and its instruction in Project Commitment Note (NEP).

- Response to requests from the Scientific and Technical Council (CST).

Analysis of the Project Identification Note (PIN) of the Svay Chek project, which aims to restore the Svay Chek River watershed in Cambodia through nature-based solutions: Environmental impact assessment, economic and social viability, innovation and governance of the project; Formulation of recommendations and questions to refine the project and facilitate its transition to a Project Commitment Note (NEP), in conjunction with the FFEM's Scientific and Technical Council.
