European regulations on international timber trade and environmental and social reporting are changing.
The traceability of supply chains is more important than ever to ensure that there is no deforestation in supply chains and that social and environmental issues and risks are properly addressed.
As part of its CSR and sustainable and responsible sourcing strategy, the company (confidential) wanted to diagnose and map its supply chains for "true" mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King), cassia (Cassia siamea Lam.) and jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.).
SalvaTerra has been entrusted with a mission to diagnose and map these sectors and analyse environmental and social risks.
SalvaTerra was mandated to:
- Carry out a bibliographic state of the art on each of these species (range, dynamics, conservation status, types of forest management, threats, etc.)
- Clarify the various existing forest certifications, their advantages and disadvantages, in relation to supply chains.
- Map, describe and analyze the supply chains of the company's products containing these wood species: identification and characterization of suppliers and processing steps, etc.
- Analysis of social and environmental risks in the different sectors.
- Support, advice and recommendations to strengthen the company's sustainable and responsible sourcing of these wood species.
Diagnosis and advisory support for a responsible sourcing of timber from "true" mahogany, cassia and jackfruit: State of the art of the species (distribution, conservation, threats, management); Analysis of forest certifications; Mapping and analysis of the company's product supply chains; Identification of suppliers and processing steps. Social/Environmental Risk Assessment; Recommendations for responsible sourcing.
