European regulations on international timber trade and environmental and social reporting are changing.
The traceability of supply chains is more important than ever to ensure that there is no deforestation in supply chains and that social and environmental issues and risks are properly addressed.
As part of its CSR and sustainable and responsible sourcing strategy, the company (confidential) wanted to diagnose and map its supply chains of Black Walnut (Juglans nigra), Sapela (Entandrophragma cylindricum), Makoré (Tieghemella heckelii) and Ebony (Diospyros crassiflora).
A mission of diagnosis, mapping of the sectors and analysis of environmental and social risks has been entrusted to SalvaTerra.
SalvaTerra was mandated to:
- Carry out a bibliographic state of the art on each species (range, dynamics, conservation status, types of forest management, threats, etc.)
- Clarify the various existing forest certifications, their advantages and disadvantages, in relation to supply chains.
- Map, describe and analyze the international supply chains of the company's products containing these wood species: identification and characterization of suppliers and processing steps, etc.
- Analysis of social and environmental risks in the different sectors.
- Support, advice and recommendations to strengthen the company's sustainable and responsible sourcing of these wood species.
